In the Village of Sodus this Week

The Village is conducting annual routine hydrant flushing in the early-morning hours of Friday, 26 October. Do not be alarmed by any activity near the fire hydrants overnight tonight.

Rochester Gas & Electric has employed Birchcrest Tree Services to trim trees near their power lines. Birchcrest is in the Village this week, and will likely be here through next week. Then they will move out into the Town.

The Office of the Sheriff is sponsoring a drug take-back event this weekend. Please bring your expired medications (or medications that are no longer needed) to the Village Barn at 39 Gaylord Street this Saturday, 27 October 2018, between 10 am and 2 pm. Remember that medications should not be flushed or thrown into the trash.

Final curb-side brush collection for the year will be NEXT MONDAY, 29 October. After next Monday, Village residents can still bring brush to the brush pile located behind the Village Barns at 39 Gaylord Street. Please follow all brush guidelines. (Guidelines can be found here).

Curb-side leaf collection will begin next week, weather permitting. Please follow all leaf guidelines. (Guidelines can be found here).

The Village is looking to hire one, or two, temporary seasonal employee to help with leaf collection this fall. One full-time, or two part-time positions are available. Call the Village Clerk at 315.483.9821 if interested.

The Zoning Board of Appeals is looking for two Village residents to serve as alternate board members. Please call the Village Clerk at 315.483.9821 if interested in serving.

The Village is also looking for someone to fill a one-year vacancy on the Board of Trustees. Interested parties must live in the Village, care about managing community assets, and be interested in working for a better community. Call the Village Clerk at 315.483.9821 if interested in learning more.

Remember that payment for water and sewer bills is due by the end of October.

A Message from the Mayor — Brush Pick Up

We’ve been receiving questions regarding the brush pick-up schedule. The Village crew has been focusing on repairing damage caused by snow removal over this past (extremely long) winter season and picking up brush as they have been able. Starting next week, brush pick up will be a weekly occurrence — weather permitting. The schedule will remain flexible to allow our small crew to work efficiently, but brush pick up will happen every week in which we are not dealing with snow and ice removal. Please place brush in safe, neat, sensible piles near the curb or edge of the street. For the next several weeks, we will also pick up leaves left over from last year. Please keep leaves in a separate pile from the brush.

Best,
David

The Board meeting is to conduct routine business. As always, the meeting is open to the public. Time: 7:00 pm. Place: Firemen’s Meeting Room (downstairs at the Municipal Building).
The Public Hearing is an opportunity for the public to voice their opinion on proposed changes to the Village’s Property Maintenance chapter of our code book. The chapter was drafted 20 years ago. The proposed new chapter will reduce response time in dealing with nuisances, particularly repeat nuisances. It will also add an administrative fee to make serious violations less appealing. Time: 6:30 pm. Place: Firemen’s Meeting Room (downstairs at the Municipal Building).
