Weather Advisory

Due to the inclement weather, Wayne County has issued a temporary travel ban on all unnecessary travel. Accordingly, Town and Village Offices are now closed.

Happy Thanksgiving Week!

The early snow has hit us hard. We will get back to picking up your leaves as soon as we can find them again.

Main Street Update – 10 November 2016

Everything is now ready to replace the leaking water valve on Main Street. We will be digging today (Thursday, 10 November) to expose the water main. Then, in the morning hours of Monday, 14 November, we will shut off water to Main Street, replace the valve, and restore water before anyone notices. Affected homes and businesses will be notified.

Election Day – Tuesday, 8 November 2016

The Village of Sodus (District 5) votes today downstairs at the Municipal Building (14-16 Mill Street) for national, state, county, town, and village elections. Park in the Municipal Lot and enter through the clearly marked door. The polls open at 6:00 am and close at 9:00 pm. Let your voice be heard!

Main Street Update – 6 November 2016

Anyone who has ever worked with plumbing knows that valves can be tricky things. We looked into the leaky valve at Main and Mill Streets this week knowing that it could have gone either way. Unfortunately, things went the wrong way and the valve is now leaking much worse and it needs to be replaced.

We couldn’t get a stake-out before next Tuesday, 8 November 2016. Once that stake-out tells us where the underground lines are, we will pre-dig the area (either late Tuesday or Wednesday, weather permitting). Actual valve replacement will take place in the overnight hours of Wednesday, the 9th, or Thursday, the 10th, following the procedures originally described in the post from 24 October 2016 (Water Work on Main Street), again, weather permitting.

The work will require water to be shut off along a stretch of Main Street. Affected homes and businesses will be notified in advance.

Village Parking Reminder

There is absolutely no on-street parking in the Village between 2:00 am and 7:00 am beginning 1 November 2016. This parking restriction will be in place until 1 April 2017.

Between 7:00 am and 2:00 am, parking is allowed for two hours in designated parking spaces.

These restrictions are to enable our plows to remove snow from our streets.

Vehicles left on the streets overnight will be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.

Main Street Update – 1 November 2016

The repairs to the leaking fire hydrant on West Main Street will require more investigation and work than we anticipated. The leak has been stopped for now and that hydrant will be taken out of service until work can resume in the Spring of 2017.

During our attempt to repair this hydrant, a leak developed at a valve on the corner of Main and Mill Streets. We are looking into this leak, as well as replacing an out-of-service hydrant on State Street.

Affected residents and businesses will be notified if any water services need to be shut off during this work.
